Oxford United suffered a third home defeat in a row with a 2-1 loss against Peterborough United.

The visitors led 2-0 at the break as the U’s struggled to get themselves into the game but did reduce the deficit after the break. However, Matty Taylor was shown a straight red card with over half an hour remaining, leaving Karl Robinson’s side with too much to do.

Here are three talking points from the game.

Goals Came at Bad Times

Obviously, there is never a good time to concede a goal but both of the Posh’s efforts came in unfortunate circumstances.

First, Oxford had the ball in the back of the net through Billy Bodin but Taylor was adjudged to have interfered with play from an offside position. The visitors went up the other end and scored less than a minute later, meaning the U’s have fallen behind in each of their last three home games.

The second goal was similar. Oxford began to get themselves back into the game but poor defending allowed yet another shot from the edge of the box roll past Simon Eastwood in the U’s goal.

Red Card

Oxford deservedly got themselves back into the game when Bodin headed home so Taylor’s dismissal came at an awful time.

Posh not only now had the upper hand but also a man advantage. There were further chances for the U’s with the post being struck, but it was a significant sting.

Late Chances

Despite that, there were still some late chances for the U’s.

Marcus Browne latched on to a loose ball and struck towards goal but his effort was cleared off the line.

Moments later, Browne found Kyle Joseph on the edge of the box but the Swansea loanee fired high and wide.
