Oxford United stretched their unbeaten away record in the league to four games with a 3-1 win at Bolton.

Djavan Anderson netted his first Oxford goal before Ciaron Brown struck a second from long range.

The hosts did reduce the deficit but Steve Seddon restored Oxford’s two-goal lead.

Here are three talking points from the game.

Different Types of Goals and Unlikely Goalscorers

On the road, Oxford seem to have hit form and have notched a variety of goals. At Exeter, Cameron Brannagan scored with a free kick, Sam Long finished from another set piece while Kyle Joseph added a brace with two different finishes.

It was a similar story at Portsmouth with Joseph volleying home Oxford’s only goal of the game.

That story continued at Bolton but with three unlikely scorers. Anderson pounced on a loose ball in the box after clever work from Joseph down the left before Brown burst through midfield to rifle home an effort from 20 yards.

Oxford’s third came from a deep corner delivered by Lewis Bate which Steve Seddon headed home.

Simon Eastwood

The U’s goalkeeper has come under scrutiny several times this season but it was an assured display from Oxford’s number one.

With Oxford leading 1-0, Eastwood made himself big to deny Bolton an equaliser just before the break. His distribution was good and helped his defence out every time he was called upon.

Gritty and Organised Display

It was a feisty and scrappy affair in Greater Manchester, with both sides physical and picking up bookings. In fact, the U’s were awarded five yellow cards with two Bolton players also going into the book.

Despite that, it could have been easy for Oxford to crumble, particularly when the hosts reduced the deficit. However, the U’s held their own and stood firm against a very solid League One outfit.
