League One Preview: Oxford United v Morecambe – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats when Morecambe visit Grenoble Road.

The U’s lost at Bristol Rovers last weekend before a midweek defeat at home to Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

As for Morecambe, their search for a win continues after a 1-0 defeat at Bolton. The Shrimps have two draws and two defeats from their opening League One fixtures but made it through to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a penalty shootout victory over Stoke.

Cameron Brannagan opened his league account against the Imps but the U’s conceded two goals in a match for the first time in League One this season.

Morecambe have also found goals hard to come by with just one scored in their opening five games.

The U’s are still without Sam Baldock, Yanic Wildschut and Josh Murphy through injury and their attacking threat has taken another blow with Marcus Browne also sidelined.

The Shrimps are without Courtney Duffus but last season’s top scorer Cole Stockton, who was an Oxford target, could return from illness.

Last season’s 2-1 defeat at Morecambe all but put an end to Oxford’s playoffs hopes. However, the U’s are unbeaten in the previous four meetings, winning this fixture 3-1 last season. In eight Football League home meetings against the Shrimps, the U’s have lost just once.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Ciaron Brown, Stuart Findlay, Elliott Moore, Steve Seddon, Sam Long, Marcus McGuane, Cameron Brannagan, Lewis Bate, Matty Taylor, Kyle Joseph.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-0 Morecambe
