Leeds United youngster Lewis Bate could be a potential transfer target for Oxford United, with U’s boss Karl Robinson reportedly an admirer of the 19-year-old.

This is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post who claim the former Chelsea youngster is set to have discussions with Leeds manager Jesse Marsch regarding a lack of game time at Elland Road.

The Premier League club have enjoyed a pre-season tour in Australia but Bate was left out of the 26-man squad and remains a fringe player, despite being given his Premier League debut in a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea by Marsch.

The youngster is thought to have a bright future at Elland Road but is in need of more regular football and at a higher level than Premier League 2 Division 2 following the young Whites’ relegation last season.

The report adds that a number of League One clubs are interested in the 19-year-old midfielder, but the England U20 international is admired by the Oxford boss.

The central midfielder, who has seven goals and seven assists from 84 career appearances, would be a great loan option for the U’s.
