Oxford United are scrapping to sign recently released Cardiff striker, Mark Harris, according to Alan Nixon.

The 24-year-old, who came through the Bluebirds’ academy, left the Welsh club in the summer after 17 years.

During his time at the Cardiff City Stadium, Harris netted ten times from 95 appearances. The five times Welsh-capped striker had also spent time on loan at Newport County, Port Vale and Wrexham.

The forward, who can also play on either flank, was in talks over a new deal but nothing came of it, meaning he is now a free agent.

In April, Championship rivals Blackburn and Stoke showed interest in the 24-year-old as a free transfer in the summer after they both saw January bids rejected.

Liam Manning will be looking to add a striker with the club’s current options as injury-prone Sam Baldock and youngster Gatlin O’Donkor.

Of course, the club decided to allow Matty Taylor to depart following the expiration of his contract, but it’s a position the U’s need to fill.

So far, Manning has seen the arrival of attacker Ruben Rodrigues, midfielder Josh McEachran, defenders Jordan Thorniley and Fin Stevens and goalkeeper James Beadle.
