Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Charlton Athletic

|

Oxford United welcome Charlton Athletic on Saturday with the U’s looking to end a run of five games without victory.

Tuesday night’s goalless draw against league leaders Peterborough was a good result, but it means the U’s have managed to score just once in their last five fixtures.

As for the Addicks, they are one point and one place above the U’s but have played two more games. Lee Bowyer’s side are off the back of a 1-0 win at Wigan but had lost three of their previous four fixtures.

Oxford’s injury list has been added to. On top of absentees Marcus McGuane and Sam Winnall, James Henry has been ruled out until Easter while Elliot Lee and Sam Long were both pulled off during their game against the Posh.

Former Oxford midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey made a return from injury on Tuesday but top scorer Chuks Aneke is a doubt having picked up a knock against Wigan.

Aneke took his tally to 13 goals on Tuesday, with Conor Washington next on the list with seven. Jayden Stockley has added four with Forster-Caskey on three for the Addicks.

Charlton have scored two more league goals than Oxford but the U’s have conceded eight fewer.

The U’s lost the reverse at the Valley 2-0 but that result ended a good run against their south London opponents. Before that defeat, Oxford had gone seven games unbeaten, which includes four wins.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Josh Ruffels, Rob Atkinson, Elliott Moore, Anthony Forde, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Liam Kelly, Mide Shodipo, Mark Sykes, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-0 Charlton Athletic
