Oxford United boss Karl Robinson has heaped praise on goalkeeper Jordan Archer after the former Millwall man came in for the injured Simon Eastwood.

The 26-year-old, who joined the club on a short term basis early last month, had been a key performer for the U’s through a busy festive period.

A similar situation happened last year when Eastwood was sidelined and although Derby County youngster Jonathan Mitchell wasn’t a bad fit, Robinson admitted that bringing in an experienced player was crucial this time around.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Jordan, he’s a really solid character.

“I think you can see when you bring in a young goalkeeper how confidence can maybe waver, but we’ve seen also when you have a keeper people believe in how that settles the back four down.

“We wish him all the best for his next destination.”

Archer played eight games for Oxford, conceding seven goals but kept three clean sheets. Three of those goals conceded came against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, with the opposition only managing one past him on four separate occasions.
