Oxford suffered their heaviest defeat of the season and a seventh loss in eight as Bristol Rovers ran out 3-0 winners.

The U’s were two goals down by the break before the Gas added a third in the second half.

Here are three talking points from the game.

Bright Start Quickly Diminished

Again, Oxford started the game brightly but squandered a few early chances. The post and the side netting were struck in the early exchanges but once again, we were unable to take advantage.

As has been the case all season, those missed chances proved costly and Rovers netted twice before the break. The game was done.

Injuries

Sam Baldock was forced off before the Gas opened the scoring and it’s unlikely we will see him again this season. Marcus Browne and Yanic Wildschut, who themselves haven’t played too much football, were also unable to complete 90 minutes.

This season, the squad depth isn’t there and injuries may have hampered the campaign, but it’s a poor excuse.

Robinson Out

A talking point for several weeks but there was almost a unanimous noise in regards to the club sacking the manager.

Yes, he has had highs at the club but the entire season has been a downer, right from the summer transfer window, the Jodi Jones saga, the dreadful form, the backroom departures, the player departures and so much more. One point from a possible 24 is unacceptable.
