U’s Could Close in on Bristol City Forward

Oxford United could be closing in on Bristol City striker Matty Taylor, as reported by Bristol Live.

The 29-year-old striker was spotted at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday as the U’s won 1-0 against Peterborough United.

Taylor has fallen out of favour with the Robins and has been linked with a move away from Ashton Gate during this transfer window, including a deadline day move to Charlton Athletic, which fell through.

The Oxford-born striker began his career with the U’s, making eleven appearances before he made a move to Forest Green Rovers where he scored 22 goals in 94 appearances in the Conference.

Taylor then joined Bristol Rovers, winning back to back promotions as the Gas shot from the Conference to League One. During his three years at the club, he scored 61 times from 118 league appearances.

But, after rivals Bristol City activated the striker’s release clause, he found himself at the Championship side. But the 29-year-old has struggled to reach the heights with the Robins, scoring seven league goals from 66 appearances.

It would be a real coup for Oxford to land Taylor. He has been a target for the U’s in the past but the striker refused the opportunity to return to the club. But this looks likely to have changed with the forward looking for first-team football.

And after landing Dan Agyei before the Peterborough match, the U’s front line is starting to take shape.
