U’s Defender Leaves The Club

|

Oxford United defender Tony McMahon has left the club by mutual consent, the club have confirmed.

The 33-year-old full-back made ten appearances for the U’s before spending time on loan at Scunthorpe United. He did feature during pre-season but hasn’t appeared for Karl Robinson’s side this season.

A move away suited both the club and the player after McMahon wanted to relocate back to the northeast, but no offers were made for the firmer Bradford City defender.

Robinson told the clubs official website: “Tony is a good pro but he knew that he was unlikely to feature here.

“He is now free to go and find a club and we thank him for his time here and wish him well for the future.”

With the arrival of Chris Cadden and impressive form shown last season by Sam Long, the veteran defender was always going to be down the pecking order and first-team football wasn’t guaranteed.
