Oxford United are looking all the more likely to complete the signing of Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell after BBC Sport confirmed the SPL side have received an offer from the U’s.

Oxford had shown interest in the 27-year-old from the start of the month, but it was believed that the Scottish international and SPL club both wanted to wait until the summer, where the defender would be available for free following the expiration of his contract.

However, as today is transfer deadline day and the U’s look resigned to losing Shandon Baptiste and Tariqe Fosu to Brentford, Karl Robinson remains in the hunt for a striker and a defender, with O’Donnell a likely replacement for Chris Cadden, who departed at the start of the month.

The U’s have dropped out of the playoff picture having missed two weeks worth of matches due to FA Cup commitments, but return to action this weekend against Blackpool.
