Oxford United have rejected a £500,000 bid from Millwall for midfielder Cameron Brannagan, according to Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has been a key member of the U’s squad since he arrived from Liverpool in January 2018 and has made over 100 appearances for the club.

This season, the midfielder has managed just 13 appearances in all competitions after a serious eye inflammation caused him to miss much of the campaign.

Back on the field, Brannagan has started to regain the sort of form that prompted scout’s from Leeds United to keep an eye on the midfielder last season.

Now though, Millwall have shown interest but their reported offer of £500,000 is well short of the mark that Oxford would be willing to sell their star midfielder for.

Also, Brannagan only extended his contract in the summer, meaning he is set to stay at Grenoble Road until June 2023.

Following their 1-0 win over Fleetwood on Saturday, the U’s are now just three points off the playoffs with a game in hand on the teams above. Karl Robinson’s side are also unbeaten in 12 and have won their last eight games in succession.

Brannagan will be an integral part of the Oxford squad if they are to secure promotion to the Championship, having fallen in the playoff final last season. As a result, the U’s would be looking for a much more substantial offer to prize their star man away.
