As Oxford United close in on a change of ownership, Anindya Bakrie has claimed that the club will play their football at a new venue in the county.
The 46-year-old, who attended Saturday’s win over Morecambe along with another member of the board, Horst Geicke, spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Oxford.
He said: “We are not in a position to say exactly where, but it has to be in Oxford and we hope it’s not far away from the current place.
“We need to work with the authorities to get the land to do it.
“We need to do proper planning, we want to involve not only the community but talk to a lot of people who have done it to make it sustainable.
“If we can go up (to the Championship) in these two years that would be ideal.
“On the pitch (performance) is very crucial while we are designing, getting approval and having this ambition.”
The club’s lease at the Kassam Stadium expires in 2026 and the future of where the club will play their football has been in doubt for some time. However, with Oxford awaiting confirmation from the EFL about the change in ownership, which also includes former board member Erick Thohir, a new home looks likely.
