Oxford United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City has been selected for TV coverage, giving the club a major financial boost.

The meeting with the current holders will be shown live on Sky Sports on December 18, and the EFL confirmed, as reported by the Oxford Mail, there will be a broadcast fee of £125,000.

The two sides met in the third round of the same competition last season, and the Kassam was sold out. It’s likely that will be the case again, giving yet more financial impetus to the club.

The club reduced ticket prices for the previous round which saw the U’s edge past Sunderland, but it’s likely ticket prices will remain the normal rate when the Premier League champions come to town.

The U’s next match is this Sunday when Karl Robinson’s side face Hayes and Yeading United in the first round of the FA Cup – also live on BT Sport.
