Woodburn Finally Set to Return

|

Oxford United are set to welcome back Ben Woodburn this week as the Liverpool loanee closes in on a return from injury.

The 20-year-old has been out since October when he broke a bone in his foot as the U’s drew 2-2 at Accrington Stanley.

And although he was due to return in December, the youngster then broke a bone in his other foot while training at his parent club.

But now, Oxford are hopeful the attacking midfielder could play a part when the U’s travel to Shrewsbury Town this weekend.

Fellow midfielder James Henry told the Oxford Mail: “It will be great, the more people we can get around the squad the better.

“We’ll need a lot of bodies from now until the end of the season.

“The demands have been high on everyone and Ben’s a great player, so having him back will be a big boost.”

The second injury has almost benefited the U’s. The Premier League side agreed to freeze a share of his wages until he returns to action, which freed up some extra funds to bring in Marcus Browne in the January window.

The Wales international made 13 appearances before being sidelined, where he scored one goal and provided five assists.

It will certainly be a huge boost for Karl Robinson and his squad as the U’s continue to push for promotion from League One.
