ANDY Burgess has promised Oxford United’s fans that he will soon return to the form that saw him shine at the start of the season.

The midfielder has recently been hit by a mixture of injuries, illness and an apparent lack of confidence. But he put in a much improved performance on Saturday as a late second half substitute.

Burgess believes he has now turned the corner and will soon be back to his best. He told the Oxford Mail:

‘Inconsistency is something that has plagued me throughout my career.

‘I can’t put my finger on it, why it happens, why I can’t maintain form throughout the season, but hopefully I’m through that stage now.

‘Last Saturday I put a few good balls in, it was only 15 minutes, but if I play or I’m sub again on Saturday, I’ll do my best for the team.

I’ve had a few problems with the virus and a few niggling injuries, it’s been a bit stop-start for me, but I’m settled at the club.

‘I never asked to leave, I never asked if any of it was true, I’m enjoying my time here and I’m not looking to leave Oxford.

‘We’re all focused on getting promotion from this league. Hopefully, if the team turns the corner, form-wise, I will as well.’
