Dan Agyei Delighted to Open U’s Account

Oxford United striker Dan Agyei has said his first U’s goal is “a massive relief” after the 22-year-old added the fourth as Karl Robinson’s side eased past Southend United.

The former Burnley forward was substituted on after Matty Taylor added a third, and scored with his first few touches after driving through the defence.

But the striker, who has found playing time hard to come back since his move in August, has made just seven first-team appearances but he was pleased with his goal.

He told the Oxford Mail: “It’s a massive relief. I’ve worked hard and it’s paid off.

“The gaffer was saying that when I get the ball I should turn and drive at them because he said no one can live with me when I do that.

“Today’s put a good marker down and I just need to take any chance I get.”

It was another comfortable afternoon for Oxford who extended their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions after securing their first win at Roots Hall since 2003.

Robinson takes his side to Walsall next week in the second round of the FA Cup, before returning to League One action when they welcome Shrewsbury Town to Grenoble Road.
