League One Preview: Fleetwood Town v Oxford United – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United will be looking to end a run of three straight losses when they travel to Fleetwood on Easter Friday.

The U’s suffered damaging defeats against Plymouth, Morecambe and Sunderland, leaving them four points off the top six.

As for Fleetwood, they conceded a 95th-minute goal in a 2-1 defeat at home to Accrington Stanley last time out. The Cod Army have recorded just one win from their last 16 games but have managed to pick up draws against Plymouth, MK Dons and Portsmouth.

The U’s don’t have any fresh injury concerns but are still without Sam Baldock, Marcus Browne, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin and Jamie Hanson.

Fleetwood will be without goalkeeper Alex Cairns following his red card against Stanley, while Brad Halliday, Harrison Holgate and captain Jordan Rossiter are all absent through injury.

Left-back Danny Andrew, who has chipped in with six goals and six assists, is also a doubt, while forward Gerard Garner is the top scorer with eight. Fleetwood also have a handful of players on five goals, including a former Oxford target, Ellis Harrison.

This game is important for both teams. The U’s need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive while Fleetwood sit level on 38 points with Morecambe and Gillingham, with the latter occupying the final relegation spot.

The Cod Army have scored 55 goals this season – the most of any side in the bottom half of the table. However, they have also conceded 71 goals, with only three teams allowing more in the division.

The U’s had gone 12 Football League games without a win against Fleetwood, losing ten, but have won the last two meetings, both of which came at Grenoble Road.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Ciaron Brown, Elliott Moore, Luke McNally, Sam Long, Herbie Kane, Cameron Brannagan, Billy Bodin, Gavin Whyte, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Fleetwood Town 1-2 Oxford United
