Oxford United will be looking to make it three wins in succession when the U’s travel to high-flying Wigan on Tuesday night.

Karl Robinson’s side netted seven Football League away goals for the first time in the club’s history with victory over Gillingham last time out – a result which followed a 3-2 win over promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

As for Wigan, they played out a goalless draw at Cheltenham at the weekend but despite the dropped points, the Latics remain unbeaten in 19 games in all competitions.

Oxford remain sixth, three points behind Wycombe and MK Dons but with a game in hand while Wigan find themselves second in League One, one point behind league leaders Rotherham. However, Leam Richardson’s side have two games in hand on the Millers.

Oxford welcome back Herbie Kane from his three-match suspension while Gavin Whyte is available after isolation, but the club will assess the fitness of James Henry.

The U’s signed Marcus Browne, Oisin Smyth and Ciaron Brown on deadline day but all three are unavailable for this match.

Jordan Cousins, Scott Smith and Charlie Wyke are among the absentees for the hosts. Callum Lang, who is the Tics’ second-highest scorer this season behind Will Keane, returned from his recent layout against the Robins.

Matty Taylor took his tally to 15 for the season against the Gills while Cameron Brannagan netted four in the 7-2 victory in Kent.

Wigan won the reverse fixture against a spirited but depleted Oxford side. The U’s won both fixtures last season, winning 2-1 at the DW Stadium, but had lost their previous six meetings.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Steve Seddon, Elliott Moore, Luke McNally, Sam Long, Herbie Kane, Cameron Brannagan, Mark Sykes, Nathan Holland, Billy Bodin, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Oxford United
