Oxford began the month with the news that James Golding had penned a new “long-term” deal with the club. The 18-year-old spent time on loan at Banbury earlier in the season, in addition to a call-up to the Republic of Ireland U19 squad.

Liam Manning was then nominated for the League One Manager of the Month for April. The U’s boss guided the club to safety with wins over Cheltenham and Forest Green while there were also credible draws against Peterborough, Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth.

Oxford’s final game of the season was a microcosm of much of the campaign – suffering a defeat despite another dominant display. The U’s took the lead against already relegated Accrington but two late goals from the visitors sealed the win.

Matty Taylor, Djavan Anderson and Jodi Jones were then released by the club. Losing Taylor may have come as a shock with the 33-year-old the club’s ninth-highest scorer.

The U’s were then linked with a move for Wolves forward, Theo Corbeanu. The 21-year-old worked under Liam Manning when on loan at MK Dons.
