McNally Scores Twice in U21 Win

|

January signing Luke McNally scored twice as Oxford United’s U21s won 4-1 against Luton Town U21s.

The 21-year-old, who is completing his own mini pre-season having arrived from St Patrick’s Athletic in January, played the full 90 minutes, just five days after he managed 60 minutes in an U21 win over Bristol Rovers.

Although Luton took the lead, it was McNally’s first effort that tied the scores. The defender added a second inside 25 minutes, powerfully heading home from a corner.

Callum Crook added a third before the break, finishing from a Leon Chambers-Parillon pass, and he was denied a second when his overhead kick was cleared off the line.

Left-back Michael Elechi burst past his defender and crossed got Adam Smith to add a fourth with just over ten minutes remaining.

As for McNally, completing 150 minutes of competitive football will be a significant boost. The defender has been involved in first-team training this season but it seems unlikely he will feature for Karl Robinson’s side in the remaining games.
