Michael Collins, 28 has joined Oxford United on a one year deal with an option of a further year.

Previously Michael had been club captain at his last club Scunthorpe United who he helped secure promotion last season from Skybet league 2.

A former Republic of Ireland under 21 international how started out coming through the ranks at Huddersfield he’s made over 300 first team appearances.

Last night he was given a run out in the friendly against Oxford City and early signs are that he looks like a player who offers advice to others.

He was comfortable on the ball and at 6ft offered a presence in the centre of the park. Equally adept at playing the ball with both feet, although looking at him he did prefer his right foot.

He looks a good addition to the squad with the U`s now having Danny Rose, Andy Whing, Johnny Mullins & Jon Meades as senior pros who can play in central midfield. Not forgetting the younger players Josh Ruffles, Josh Ashby & Lewis Hayden.
