Oxford ‘Agree a Deal’ for Wolves Defender

|

Oxford United have agreed a deal with Premier League club Wolves defender Cristian Marques, according to reports by Ricardo Cardoso and the Oxford Mail.

The 19-year-old centre-back saw his season-long loan at Portuguese Primeira Liga club Belenenses SAD cut short after making just two appearances for the U23 side.

Now, Wolves are still looking for the youngster to gain some first-team experience and it is an area of the pitch that Oxford are looking to cover after Jordan Thorniley was recalled from his loan spell by Blackpool.

The U’s are left with captain Elliott Moore, who is still out of contract in the summer, Luke McNally and veteran defender John Mousinho.

Marques is yet to make a senior appearance for Bruno Lage’s side but has turned out 31 times for Wolves U23s, where he has become their captain.

The U’s are still yet to make a signing during the January transfer window but the report suggests Oxford are close to landing the 19-year-old.
