Oxford United winger Joel Cooper has joined League Two side Port Vale on loan until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old, who joined the U’s from Linfield in 2020, has struggled for game time at Grenoble Road and returned to his former club last season after personal issues.

Now, the winger has stayed in England but remains surplus to requirements at Oxford. Speaking to the club’s official website, U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “Joel needs to be playing games.

“Port Vale are a good club where we know he will be looked after and hopefully he gets to help them push on from their league position in the second half of the season.”

Cooper has managed just 11 appearances for the club in 18 months. Of those appearances, the winger has played just 90 minutes of League One action over six outings, with his two goals coming in the Football League Trophy.

He joins tenth-placed Port Vale ahead of a match against 23rd placed Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
