Thorniley Recalled by the Seasiders

Blackpool have recalled defender Jordan Thorniley from his loan spell at Oxford United. The 25-year-old joined the U’s on a season-long loan in the summer and made 25 appearances.

However, reports last week suggested that his parent club were set to recall the defender and now they have done so.

Speaking to the club’s official website, U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “First of all, we thank Jordan for what he did here.

“He settled in straight away, he is a tremendous competitor and it has been a pleasure to have him here. We wish him well back at Blackpool.

“We have options in that position and because we always knew there was the recall clause we have made plans for all eventualities.

“We will wait and see if we need to bring in a direct replacement in the next week or so.”

The news comes as little surprise with Oxford rejecting several bids from Blackpool for midfielder Cameron Brannagan, one of which even included the defender plus cash.

With Thorniley gone, it leaves Oxford with captain Elliott Moore, Luke McNally and John Mousinho as the club’s only senior central defenders. Moore is currently out of contract in the summer while Mousinho will be 36 before the season ends.
