Oxford ‘Favourites’ to Sign Northern Irish Midfielder

|

Oxford United have emerged as favourites to sign Dungannon Swifts midfielder Oisin Smyth, according to BBC Sport NI reporter Eric White.

The 21-year-old has scored once and added five assists from 21 NIFL Premiership games this season and is seen as one for the future.

Smyth has spent his entire career with the Northern Irish side but the U’s could raid the country once again in search for young talent to bring to the Football League.

In recent seasons, Oxford have signed Gavin Whyte, Mark Sykes, Joel Cooper and, most recently, Luke McNally from oversees and Smyth could be the next one on the conveyor belt.

The U’s are yet to make a signing during this January transfer window but Marcus Browne appears to be the first one likely to arrive with several reports suggesting the former Oxford loanee is set for a permanent return.
