Oxford United have won the race to sign Cheltenham striker, Will Goodwin, according to reports.

Jon Palmer claims the 21-year-old will undergo a medical today (Wednesday) and will commit to a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Richard Cawley, who covers Charlton for the South London Press, adds that the fee will be around £400,000.

The Addicks were also in for the striker and Cawley continues that the London club offered better personal terms but the youngster believes a move to Oxford is better in terms of location.

Goodwin has scored six goals in his last 16 league games, including one in Des Buckingham’s first game in charge of the U’s at Whaddon Road.

While the fee may be quite high, Oxford clearly see him as an attacker that can not only add to the squad in the short-term but also be an asset should the club look to sell in the future.

Reports also claim that summer target Jack Marriott has been transfer listed by Fleetwood, with the Cod Army looking for £500,000 in the summer.

However, it appears the U’s have moved on and have identified Goodwin as their primary target during the January transfer window.
