Robinson Still Hopeful Of Transfer Dealings

|

Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has revealed he would like another addition to his squad before Monday’s transfer deadline, but it would only be subsidised by departures.

The U’s head into tomorrows fixture at home to Coventry City with a couple of injuries, but the U’s boss hasn’t ruled out strengthening his squad before the 5 pm deadline on Monday.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “We have a perfect scenario and a not-so-perfect scenario. But equally, if everything stood still I don’t think we’d be overly disappointed if nothing materialises.

“Manoeuvring players out has to support any incomings. I don’t think it would be right to do anything else. I said that to the chairman at the beginning.

“We can’t ridiculously blow our budget. If we have to stick where we are it allows us to hold something back for January as well.”

Despite an injury to new signing Matty Taylor, Robinson insists it would still be a winger that the U’s would target.

Mark Sykes, who scored a late goal which sparked a come back in Tuesday nights Carabao Cup win over Millwall, has been listed for loan, while full-back Tony McMahon was told before the season kicked-off he was allowed to leave.

Defensively, the U’s have been vulnerable since defeat at Blackpool, and they are still short of firepower up top, with every goal since season coming from midfielders.
