Having denied rumours that he was in attendance to watch Elliott Moore, Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson is interested in midfielder Mark Sykes, according to Bristol World.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer and talks of a new deal at Grenoble Road have broken down.

This season, the former Northern Ireland U21 international has scored eight times and laid on five assists in 40 League One outings.

Sykes switched his national allegiance to the Republic of Ireland having turned out 11 times for Northern Ireland U21s and was recently called up by Stephen Kenny for matches against Belgium and Lithuania, but he was an unused substitute.

In January, Sykes was targeted by League One leader’s Wigan Athletic but a move to the DW Stadium failed to materialise.

It seems likely that he will depart in the summer on a free transfer and the Robins could be a good destination for the 24-year-old.
