Oxford United striker Matty Taylor has been ruled out for up to three weeks with a knee injury.
The 29-year-old, who is the clubs second-highest scorer with ten goals – one behind James Henry – suffered a medial knee ligament injury during the U’s goalless draw with Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.
As a result, the on-loan Bristol City forward will be absent for today’s trip to Gillingham, next weekends FA Cup fourth-round tie at Newcastle United and possibly the U’s League One match against Blackpool.
U’s boss Karl Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “In the last ten minutes of the game he had a kick to his knee.
“We thought it was just a kick, but on Wednesday morning it was a little more than we first thought
“He’ll be a big loss to us. It’s probably at worst three weeks, but Matty thinks he’ll be back for the next league game.”
Even prior to the injury, Robinson was hopeful of bringing another striker in during this transfer window, with Dan Agyei a likely to be sent out on loan.
Robinson added: “I think we need one anyway. We’ve spoken with Dan about going on loan and learning his trade and playing minutes.
“But there’s not a great deal out there (in terms of other options), so we’ve got to be very cute in what we do.”
