Who Could Leave Oxford During This Transfer Window?

|

After Oxford United made four new signings in two days, it is clear that a few faces may need to leave the club to free up some wages.

Here are a few that Vital Oxford believe could be heading elsewhere for some regular game time:

Rob Hall

26-year-old midfielder Rob Hall has struggled with injuries since joining the club, something he found difficult to overcome at previous clubs too.

However, this season, largely due to other injuries in the squad, the winger has managed 23 appearances for the U’s, managing six goals – including a hat trick against Crawley Town in the Football League Trophy.

Although not a regular, Hall has covered in vital games this season. That said, with the arrival of two more wingers, it could be a good opportunity for the midfielder to seek regular football elsewhere until the end of the season.

Mark Sykes

Like Hall, Mark Sykes has been a bit-part player this season but has been key when he’s featured.

The Northern Irishman has played 19 times and scored two goals – against Millwall in the Carabao Cup and the winner at AFC Wimbledon.

At 22-years-old, he is one for the future, but following the arrival of Liam Kelly and imminent return of George Thorne and Ben Woodburn, a loan move could benefit the player.

It’s also worth noting that although he has been a key figure when called upon, manager Karl Robinson targeted him as a potential loan move away in the summer.

Jamie Hanson

Jamie Hanson has had an inconsistent time with Oxford since his arrival from Derby County last summer. He made 41 appearances last season, but in a variety of positions, while this season, injury has limited the 24-year-old to just eight.

The defensive midfielder picked up a hamstring injury during the defeat at Fleetwood back in September, before picking up the same injury in his other leg on his return.

Although he is almost fully fit, it’s difficult to see Hanson breaking back into this Oxford side, and the most likely position would be as a right back.

He needs regular game time to help improve his fitness with the hope he will be back to compete next season.

Dan Agyei

Dan Agyei has had a frustrating time since his arrival from Burnley.

The 22-year-old has made just nine appearances, scoring just once during the win at Southend. Many fans feel he deserves game time but the goal-scoring prowess of Matty Taylor and the physical game from Jamie Mackie have limited the strikers game time.

He has featured on the wings, but with the arrival of two new wingers, a loan move away could benefit the forward.

Nico Jones

The U’s have three solid centre backs, and although Nico Jones is definitely one for the future, a loan move away could benefit the youngster.

The 17-year-old, who became the clubs youngest ever captain when he led the side out against Crawley Town in the Football League Trophy match, is yet to play in the league this season.

The youngster did make a handful of appearances at the back end of last season, but game time elsewhere could benefit the defender.
