Blackpool look set to recall defender Jordan Thorniley from his loan spell with Oxford, according to LancsLive.

The 25-year-old joined the U’s in the summer on a season-long loan from the Seasiders but the report suggests that he could return to Bloomfield Road this month.

It could be down to Oxford’s refusal to sell midfielder Cameron Brannagan – Blackpool’s prime transfer target – to the Championship club, who even offered Thorniley plus cash as part of a second deal.

Now, Neil Critchley looks set to activate the recall option in Thorniley’s current deal. With Blackpool falling short of the seven-figure release clause for Brannagan, the club have recalled Ethan Robson from his loan spell with MK Dons.

Thorniley, who is out of contract in the summer, has played 24 times for the U’s this season and formed a strong partnership alongside captain Elliott Moore.

It will leave Oxford with Moore, Luke McNally and John Mousinho although they have also been linked with Stuart Findlay in recent weeks.
