Championship club Blackpool have triggered the release clause in Cameron Brannagan’s contract, according to the Oxford Mail.

The Seasiders, who showed interest in the midfielder throughout last season, are believed to have met the club’s seven-figure fee. The club saw several bids rejected in the past.

Former U’s boss Michael Appleton, who is now in charge at Bloomfield Road, will hope the 26-year-old can push the club up the second tier.

Blackburn and QPR were also reportedly interested in the midfielder, as were several other second-tier sides last season, but it appears the Seasiders have won the race.

Brannagan joined the U’s in January 2018 and has scored 29 goals in 188 appearances. The midfielder has been one of Karl Robinson’s most consistent players so losing him just two days before their league opener at Derby County will be a huge blow.

Now, the focus will be on recruiting a new addition, with the club previously linked with Liverpool youngster, Tyler Morton.
