Oxford Interested in Feyenoord Midfielder

Oxford United are one of a number of League One clubs reportedly looking to sign Feyenoord midfielder Liam Kelly, according to The Sun.

The 24-year-old made the switch to Holland in the summer, linking up with manager Jaap Stam who worked with him at Reading.

But the midfielder has made just two appearances this season while Stam was dismissed from the Eredivisie club in October.

However, Sunderland and MK Dons are also interested in signing the former Royal, where he made 94 appearances for the Championship side.

He came through the youth academy at the Berkshire club and was a crucial figure for the side as they reached the 2017 play-off final, losing on penalties against Huddersfield Town.

Earlier this week, U’s boss Karl Robinson spoke of the areas he needed to strengthen in January, and following the prolonged absence to Ben Woodburn, he conceded that another midfielder would be key.

Tariqe Fosu and Rob Dickie would have spent time with Kelly during their time at Reading and could be a key part as Oxford look to sign the former Republic of Ireland under 19 and under 21 international.
