Oxford United switch their attention to cup action on Wednesday night as the U’s travel to Burton Albion in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The U’s drew their League One opener against Cambridge United on Saturday while the Brewers picked up a 1-0 win at Shrewsbury Town.

While both sides could be set to rotate some of their starting line-ups, Oxford could see the return of Nathan Holland after he was forced to self-isolate. However, Sam Long and Elliott Moore have been ruled out in defence but Simon Eastwood should replace Jack Stevens in goal.

However, both clubs may have one eye on Saturday’s fixtures with Burton travelling to Ipswich and Oxford welcoming Charlton.

Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hassesbaink has had a major reshuffle in the summer window. 12 players have departed while the former Chelsea striker has also seen 12 new faces arrive.

Oxford have a mixed record in recent campaigns against Burton but won 5-1 on the road at 4-0 at home on the final day against the Brewers last season.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Steve Seddon, Jordan Thorniley, Luke McNally, Anthony Forde, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Marcus McGuane, Cameron Brannagan, Gavin Whyte, Dan Agyei, Sam Winnall.

Prediction: Burton Albion 0-1 Oxford United
