Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Crewe Alexandra

|

Oxford United welcome Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night in what will be third time lucky for this fixture. The U’s have had two games against their opponents postponed as a result of positive coronavirus cases in the visitors camp.

The U’s haven’t played a league game since a 3-1 win against Rochdale at the start of the month. Karl Robinson’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup against Peterborough United while their league game against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday was postponed.

Crewe made it to the second round of the FA Cup after a 3-2 win at League Two side, Bolton Wanderers, but that win followed three successive 1-0 defeats in League One. However, David Artell’s side beat league leaders Peterborough 2-0 on Saturday.

After Saturday’s results, the U’s remain in the bottom four but have games in hand on the teams around them.

For Crewe, left-back Harry Pickering took his goal tally for the season to four after he netted against the Posh. Striker Mikael Mandron has six for the season but hasn’t scored in his last six league games.

Oxford have lost their last two games against Crewe and have won just once from their last eight league meetings.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Josh Ruffels, Sam Long Elliott Moore, Sean Clare, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Mark Sykes, Anthony Forde, Olamide Shodipo, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-1 Crewe Alexandra
