U’s Boss Talks of Transfer Priorities

Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has indicated what he needs in order for the U’s to maintain their promotion push.

Keeping hold of striker Matty Taylor, who rejoined his boyhood club in the summer on loan from Bristol City, is a priority for the U’s boss.

The 29-year-old has scored six goals from nine starts in all competitions, including the winner at Rotherham and a last-minute equaliser at Portsmouth.

Following the postponement of their League One clash with Ipswich Town, it has given Robinson time to reflect on his squad.

The U’s are currently 14 games unbeaten, and although they’ve missed up to seven first-team players through injury, a few key players will be returning in the coming weeks.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “We are getting better, but this next window is a really peculiar one. Do we need much?

If you said to me ‘what’s your wish-list?’ I think we all know Matty Taylor is one we’d like to do.”

He added: “I think we need a flying winger, pure pace, something different to what we have, and left-back cover. That’s all I need.”

But, because his side is on an incredible run and certain players have showcased their talents, another issue for Robinson is keeping hold ok key personnel in January.

Because of this, the U’s boss is drawing up a list of potential replacements if they are forced to sell key assets.

Robinson added: “The scouting list (for our games) is forever growing and we know who it will be for.

“These are things we have to make sure we get right. So our plan has to revolve around that.

“We’re ahead of the game at the moment. It’s important over the next six weeks that we keep ourselves ahead.”

Another area of concern is at right-back. Chris Cadden looks likely to be recalled from his spell, but the U’s boss is hoping to hold on to the Columbus Crew defender.
