Oxford United have been linked with another left-sided central defender with reports suggesting that Cardiff’s Ciaron Brown is set to join the club.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer but could be set for a deadline day departure from South Wales.

The defender was brought into the first-team fray by former manager Mick McCarthy but has failed to establish himself under new head coach Steve Morison.

Now, the twice capped Northern Ireland international looks set to drop down a division for regular football with the U’s having made just 19 Bluebirds outings since arriving from non-league Wealdstone.

Since his arrival in 2018, the 24-year-old has also spent time on loan at Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

Oxford are in the market for a central defender after Jordan Thorniley was recalled from his loan spell by Blackpool.

Earlier today, the U’s emerged as a potential destination for Brighton & Hove defender Haydon Roberts.
