U’s Lose Trio to Injury

|

Oxford United have lost another three players to injury as they prepare to take on Accrington Stanley tomorrow night.

Anthony Forde and Nathan Holland both picked up knocks as the U’s won at Ipswich on Saturday, while Mark Sykes has been struck with illness.

Forde and Holland have picked up minor hamstring problems, and although U’s boss Karl Robinson is hopeful the former will return this Saturday when Oxford face Southend, Holland looks like his spell on the sideline will be longer.

The 21-year-old, who scored twice as the U’s eased past AFC Wimbledon last week, was forced off at Portman Road with 20 minutes remaining.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “There’s obviously something there and historically he’s had a hamstring problem in that side before.”

When speaking about Sykes and Forde, he added: “Sykesy is ill, he’s vomiting as we speak.

“Fordey’s is fatigue and we probably shouldn’t have played him (at Ipswich), but he was brilliant in the game.

“This is the problem you have as a manager sometimes if you change the team and lose people would have said why are you changing a team that’s won 5-0.

“You’re looking at a lot of players if you add those three on to John Mousinho, Ben Woodburn, Liam Kelly and Malachi (Napa).”

Despite Stanley losing out to Rotherham at the weekend, John Coleman’s side had won their previous three in the league, and the U’s haven’t beaten them in their last four meetings.
