Oxford United have been handed another boost after the club confirmed that Marcus Browne has had his loan from Middlesbrough extended until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old, who rejoined the U’s in January having spent last season on loan at Grenoble Road, was due to return to his parent club at the end of last month

But, like with Matty Taylor and Bristol City, Boro extended the loan until the end of the season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The winger scored four goals from eleven appearances for the U’s and has been a key member of the team that has moved up to third in League One.

After Ben Woodburn also saw his loan deal from Liverpool extended, the only loanee remaining is Liam Kelly, who is on loan from Dutch club Feyenoord.

Manager Karl Robinson told the club’s website: “Marcus has been brilliant for us and it’s great to have him here a little longer.

“The fans know what a special player he can be and he was a big part of the team in our run of positive results before lockdown began.

“With Matty, Ben and now Marcus available we are in really good shape and as we have said all along, all we want now is a chance to play again and to try to win promotion on the pitch.”

The EFL are due to make the final decision as to how to conclude the season tomorrow. Although the U’s have stated they want to see out all remaining fixtures, the timeframe makes that highly unlikely. However, the U’s facing Portsmouth in the playoffs is the most likely outcome.
